‘Vikings’ Season 4 Teasers Foreshadow Bloodshed and Death — Watch the Intense Promos!

January 13, 2016

The trailer is below the cut

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT – History Channel’s Vikings is back for a brand-new season, and ETonline has your exclusive first look!

After seizing victory from the jaws of defeat with an epic battle in Paris last season, Viking leader Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) returns home dangerously ill. With his health issues possibly crippling him, others seek to take over his throne — including his own wife and eldest son.

In one of two intense season four promos, which will debut on History Channel this week, Ragnar ominously foretells the bloodshed that awaits.

“Power, it’s dangerous. This, I have always known. Look at what power has given me since I invaded Paris. I found myself thinking, ‘What use this power?’” he cryptically says. “You see the problem with power is the more you have, the more others want it. And in my world, power can only be truly be built… with blood.”

But as the music swells and the camera pans to a close-up of his face, he settles in for the long battle ahead: “Only fools believe they can live forever by avoiding the fight. I embrace the idea of death.”

Michael Hirst shares exclusive image, teases betrayals in season 4

December 21, 2015

It’s the Last Supper for Ragnar, and everyone might be Judas.

EW – History’s Vikings is returning Feb. 18, but for fans who can’t wait, EW is excited to share an exclusive look at the new season: A Last Supper-inspired piece of key art featuring the show’s cast. Vikingscreator/writer-of-every-episode Michael Hirst offers an in-depth look at the artwork. Click on the image above for a full-sized view, and read Hirst’s tantalizing teases for the season ahead, below:
A picture of the Last Supper portraying pagan Vikings in the role of Christ and his apostles may seem, to some, very controversial. But I would say, if nothing else, it emphasizes the centrality of belief systems and spirituality in the show. We are addressing that conflict between Christianity and paganism.

So many Renaissance artists painted a version of the Last Supper because of art starting to perform a new function. The depict human and emotional dilemmas using this motif, the image of prophesied betrayal. All the figures in these paintings are concentrated around the words: “One of you will betray me.” I think that’s the key to understanding this image that we have from the show. It’s exactly the same issue that’s being confronted.

Vote for Vikings and Travis Fimmel as “Most Underrated”

December 13, 2015

Welcome to the first category of the 2015 CarterMatt Awards! If you missed our announcement yesterday, we are now kicking off our annual December tradition by celebrating the best that the year had to offer. You can check out this link to get more insight into when other categories and results will be announced.

Today, we begin with our first category: Underrated Show. Everyone has that show that they adore, they tell their friends to watch, and they campaign for it to be nominated for the Emmys, the Golden Globes, or something else. Yet, it never really works out. These are shows that are routinely snubbed, but are all fantastic and deserving of a little bit of love. Voting is open however often you want between now and December 26 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern time, when results will be announced.

“Vikings” (History) – There are some similarities between “Vikings” and “Hell on Wheels,” mostly in that they both rely on history to tell their stories, and they’ve also been perpetually overlooked for one reason or another. Maybe it is the heavy competition in the drama category, maybe voters just don’t love stories set more than a hundred years ago, or maybe they are just intimidated by the awesomeness of Travis Fimmel. Hard to say, but regardless “Vikings” is incredible entertainment.

What does it mean to be underrated? For us at the CarterMatt Awards, it means to be magnificent but under-appreciated. All of the nominees below in our Underrated Actor field have done tremendous work on their shows, sometimes for several years, without any major awards recognition to go along with. These are the people you’re upset every year when you see that they are not nominated.

This is the first time that we’re adding Underrated Actor and Actress specifically to the awards; we have had an Underrated Show category since 2012, when we first started these proceedings. Voting will be open as many times as you’d like between now and December 26, when the results will be announced at 3:00 p.m. Eastern / 12:00 p.m. Pacific. You can head over here to see our full schedule of categories and results dates.

Travis Fimmel, “Vikings” (History) – As Ragnar Lothbrok, Fimmel gets to play a character so is extremely intimidating physically, but also someone with so does have so many different layers beyond that. He brings such humanity to a historical figure, and makes you involved in his every move (even with the knowledge of how this story in particular ends). We don’t know if it is the network or just heavy competition, but Fimmel tends to be consistently overlooked.

The Most Underrated Actress hasn’t been announced but I’m hoping we’ll have the trifecta with a Vikings actress being nominated. Go vote now!

Season 4 Death of King Ragnar is Graceful Exit to Actor Travis Fimmel

October 22, 2015

With the decision of actor Travis Fimmel to focus on acting on films rather than on the small screen, his character King Ragnar Lothbrok in the historical drama TV series “Vikings” on the History channel may be bidding goodbye to the show come Season 4 next year.

It is really difficult to find a replacement actor for Travis Fimmel and his character in “Vikings” so rather than do it and alienate some fans of the show, it seems like the producers are now contemplating of giving the actor a graceful exit on the TV series – the death of his character.

Reports have it that executive producer Michael Hirst has already teased the possibility of King Ragnar’s death come Season 4 and that his first-born son Bjorn Ironside, played by Alexander Ludwig, will serve as his successor as King of Kattegat in Denmark, details Venture Capital Post.

In a recent interview, Hirst said that fans should take note of the fact that King Ragnar is not only sick, but he is actually hovering from life and death during the Season 3 finale.

Charismatic and magnificent

He admits that Travis has been an absolutely charismatic and magnificent actor for “Vikings” but the show has already come to the point where his young and hot sons can take over from him. Hirst added that hopefully, the audience will continue to be engaged with Bjorn the way they were with King Ragnar, and will also follow him and his adventures or conquests.
