SDCC 2016: ‘Vikings’ Trailer Teases Aftermath of Ragnar’s Return

July 23, 2016

VARIETY – History released a new trailer for the second half of “Vikings” season four Friday at Comic Con. The trailer shows the aftermath of Ragnar Lothbrok’s (Travis Fimmel) return.

The beginning of season four featured a chronological leap forward, setting up Ragnar’s return to his family with his sons having grown to be young men. The first half of season four featured Ragnar and his Viking warriors suffering defeat at the hands of King Rollo and his Frankish forces, and Ragnar exiling himself from Kattegat and leaving his sons to grow up with out him.

“In my mind this was always a show about Ragnaar Lothbrok and his sons,” series creator and executive producer Michael Hirst said. He added, “The jump forward in time gave him the opportunity to lick his wounds and his sons to become men.”

Hirst also offered hints about future story that may appear in the second half of season four and in season five.

“If I was a fan of the show instead of the writer, the thing that I would really want to see is another meeting between King Ecbert and Ragnar,” said Wright.

He also teased a possible reunion for Ragnar and Lagertha.

“Nothing would make me happier” thank to see Ragnar and Lagertha together again, Wright said when asked about the possibility of seeing the two reunited.

Katheryn Winnick teases faceoff between Lagertha and Queen Aslaug

July 22, 2016

EW – Vikings’ midseason finale left much of its cast bloodied, battered, and bruised. A wounded Ragnar retreated in defeat from a battle with Rollo, Lagertha was left on the verge of death after a brutal stabbing, and an aimless Bjorn set sail for the Mediterranean to honor his absent father.

As viewers continue to reel from the climactic episode, cast members Travis Fimmel (Ragnar Lothbrok), Katheryn Winnick (Lagertha), Alexander Ludwig (Bjorn Ironside), and Gustaf Skarsgård (Floki) stopped by EW’s studio at San Diego Comic-Con to tease what’s next in the back half of season 4.

Winnick said it’s “no secret” Lagertha is alive, as she’s currently filming season 5 in Ireland, but the shieldmaiden is in “a different place in her life.” She also promised a dramatic throwdown between Lagertha and Queen Aslaug.

“It’s going to be a cat fight. The two power women go head to head,” Winnick said. “It’s a really interesting scene because you don’t expect what happens.”

Bjorn, on the other hand, is enjoying a lighter storyline. “Floki and Bjorn end up going to the Mediterranean, and they work on their tans a little bit,” Ludwig said. “You’re definitely going to see Floki and Bjorn’s relationship flourish.”

For the full run-down on where Vikings will pick up, watch EW’s full interview above.

SDCC ’16: Get thrown into a snake pit with Vikings! It’s fun!

July 21, 2016

COMICS BEAT – The History Channel’s TV show Vikings (starring Travis Fimmel, our Nerdlebrity Icon for San Diego) has always had a notable presence at Comic-Con with Viking Boat Races one year, but this year they are outdoing themselves with an authentic SNAKE PIT!!! Being surrounded by hissing reptiles was an actual, fiendish thing in Viking times, and served as a way to kill enemies, or at least scare them straight.

The San Diego version in Booth #4215 will enable con-goers to “experience the raw fear of being surrounded by real snakes in a dark, dank abyss with no immediate escape.” Which sounds awful, but I guess some people like a dank abyss. For those willing to recreate the “torture and the terror” of Viking times, fear not, all your friends will be able to see it:

Attendees with enough nerve to enter the den will have their screams and writhing captured on camera in shareable rapid gifs. Survivors will receive a Vikings Viper Cuff as a token of their triumph over death.

On Wednesday July 20 and Thursday July 21, there will be opportunities for fans to enter for chances to get tickets to the Vikings Cast Panel or the Vikings Cast Autograph Session, both on Friday July 22.

Also available while supplies last, the custom Vikings Limited Edition Comic Book with a story by Michael Hirst and the always popular drinking horn.

While there does not appear to be an opportunity to get in the snake pit WITH Travis Fimmel, this should still be grand fun for all.

Season 4: Cast Teases New Locations and Nudity

July 17, 2015

History’s Vikings invaded Comic-Con with a “Vikings Longship” (actually a tricked-out bus), providing fans with an opportunity to hang out with the cast of the hit show as they rode around the popular Gaslamp District in Downtown San Diego. Yahoo TV grabbed a seat on the “ship” with stars Travis Fimmel (Ragnar Lothbrok) and Katheryn Winnick (Lagertha), who offered a few teases about Season 4. So, what do the Gods have planned for our favorite raiders?

Winnick says we should expect plenty more action-packed battle sequences, and a focus on the family saga of the Lothbrok clan. Fimmel reveals that the Vikings will return to Paris, the city they successfully raided last season, as well as other locations we’ve yet to see before. More guts, more glory, more beards, more braids! Odin be praised.

Vikings returns in early 2016 on History.
