Gallery Update

October 14, 2017

I’ve been falling behind on this site while it was on hiatus but now I need to catch up. I’ve added all of screencaps of panels, interviews, etc from Comic Con. I’ve also added two group events where two cast mates were at the same event, added some new photos to the photoshoot from 2016 Comic Con, events from all of the cast that have gone out since last time I updated, and the few episode stills and posters from Season 5 that are available.

Vikings brutal murder: An interview with [spoiler]

April 10, 2016

An out-of-body experience

EW – Last week, Vikings staged a massive battle episode. But surprisingly, it wasn’t until this week that the bodies started to pile up. The newest episode – SPOILERS FROM HERE – saw major deaths across the Vikings world. Most shocking, in terms of sheer unexpected brutality, was the drowning death of Yidu, Ragnar’s slave-turned-mistress-slash-drug-dealer. In the throes of what appears to be a serious drug addiction, Ragnar got into an argument with Yidu. She threatened to go public with his secret about the demolished colony in Wessex — and without missing a beat, Ragnar pulled her into the water, drowning her in full view of his young sons.

It was a sudden, unexpected end for a character whose existence was always shrouded in mystery. We spoke to actress Dianne Doan about her interpretation of the motivations that led to the death scene.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: When you first joined the show, did you know how Yidu’s arc on the show was going to end?

DIANNE DOAN: When I auditioned for the role, I think it was intended for an eight-episode arc. You’re never really sure. But [Vikings creator Michael Hirst] does such a good job of keeping us all on our toes. Every time we get these scripts, someone else dies.

‘Vikings’ Season 4 Spoilers: Dianne Doan Teases Yidu, Ragnar Relationship And More

February 17, 2016

DESIGN & TREND – “Vikings” season 4 is just weeks away and we are on the edge of our seats waiting for its return. With the latest season comes some new faces, particularly Dianne Doan who’s character Yidu will shake things up for the Kattegat natives.

Design & Trend caught up with the talented actress to talk about her new role and she even dished on some spoilers.

How familiar were you with “Vikings” before auditioning for the show? What drew you to audition for the role of Yidu?

I knew about the show and had watched a couple of episodes here and there, but I didn’t follow it season to season. I was excited that they were introducing a character from the East, and incorporating the Asian culture to the show.

How would you describe Yidu’s relationship with Ragnar? Since she comes from a different part of the world that Ragnar has never been to, will this have an impact on their relationship?

I think her very appearance intrigues Ragnar, because of her ethnic background. The production really wanted to make sure that they differentiated Yidu from the people of Kattegat.

The relationship stems from Ragnar’s curiosity of her past, where she comes from, who rules it and what her thoughts are about religion and death.

What does Yidu think of the Vikings’ way of life? Do you think she and Athelstan are similar when it comes to embracing the viking culture and religion?

I think Yidu’s initial reaction is shock, because their lifestyle is so different than where she comes from. She is now a slave in a foreign land where she doesn’t know the customs or language. Her main priority is survival. And if that means assimilating to their culture and religion, then yes, she embodies the same characteristics as Athelstan in that regard.

As previously revealed, Ragnar and his men will be heading back to Paris in an attempt to fully infiltrate the French city, do you think we will see Yidu tagging along? Will we ever see Yidu on the battlefield?

‘Vikings’ – Dianne Doan Interview on Playing Yidu and Working with Travis Fimmel

February 16, 2016

SHOWBIZ JUNKIES – Dianne Doan (Disney’s Descendants) joins the cast of History’s Vikings with season four, playing Yidu, a slave who catches the attention of Ragnar (Travis Fimmel). Yidu is unlike anyone else in Kattegat and in some ways she’ll be filling the void left in Ragnar’s life with the murder of Athelstan (George Blagden). During a conference call in support of the February 18, 2016 premiere of season four, Doan said she can’t wait for audiences to meet her character. Answering questions without giving away spoilers, Doan discussed her character’s backstory and what it was like joining the cast of an established show.

Dianne Doan Vikings Interview:

What’s it like to take the leap from Disney royalty to Viking slave? Was it a challenge?

Dianne Doan: “I couldn’t have asked for a better transition out of that Disney experience just because the audience range is so limited, I guess? Challenge-wise, I think I was definitely pushed in my work as an actor, coming on to a show that’s already been so established with the course of three years, working with Travis and then numerous directors that I was able to come across. It definitely was intimidating and it pushed my limits, I would say that, but it was so rewarding.”

You mentioned working with Travis as Ragnar. It seems like he’s enamored with your character a bit and so without spoiling anything, what can you say about that relationship?

Dianne Doan: “I come on pretty early on this season, and right off the bat it’s not just Ragnar that’s intrigued or curious. It’s definitely all of Kattegat just because from my sheer appearance, it’s so different than what they’ve seen around them. But with Ragnar specifically, we know throughout the seasons he is a person who seeks to learn about different cultures and different religions which is why I think he does raid lands. Off the bat, from my appearance to the way that I carry myself, he questions it, which is why I would say our initial relationship starts out of that curiosity.”

At the request of Showbiz Junkies, I have removed the complete interview from the site. Please see  the rest of the interview at SHOWBIZ JUNKIES
