SDCC 2016: Violence, Vodka & Season 4.2 Trailer At The ‘Vikings’ Panel

We still don’t have the video from the panel so here’s an article about some details.

DEADLINE – Things were very spirited today – in more ways than one – as History’s marquee original series Vikings invaded Room 6BCF at Comic-Con this afternoon to whet fans’ appetites for the upcoming second half of Season 4, which returns to television this fall in advance of the 20-episode 5th season set to air in 2017. A very admittedly drunk Travis Fimmel (Ragnar) was joined by co-stars Katheryn Winnick (Lagertha), Clive Standen (Rollo), Gustaf Skarsgard (Floki), Alyssa Sutherland (Aslaug) and Alexander Ludwig (Bjorn) on the panel, along with writer-creator Michael Hirst for a discussion of the shocking events of the first half of season 4, what’s to come in the second half, how Hirst helped with an archaeological dig in England that may have discovered the grave of Ivar the Boneless, and more.

The panel also unveiled a new trailer for season 4, part 2, which you can see above in all its pillaging and murderous glory.

The cast is known for pranking one another, and the panel was no exception early on when Ludwig spontaneously spit out a mouthful of “water” in what seemed like a mocked spit-take at something Fimmel said. Turns out however that someone had poured straight vodka into his water bottle. No harm though, as Ludwig vowed to drink the whole thing; being the nice guy he is however, he did end up sharing a significant portion of it with a fan during the audience Q&A portion of the panel.

That bottle might have been spiked by Fimmel – later in the panel Ludwig talked about previous pranks the cast has shared, revealing that earlier today in a separate event, Fimmel painted his face blue with a paint roller while he (Ludwig) was being interviewed. However, that’s small fries compared to a prank Ludwig pulled on Fimmel during the season 4 shoot: he pushed over a porto-potty while Fimmel was in it. Gross. However, he insisted that it was “payback for years of abuse.”

Another highlight of the panel came from Hirst, who revealed he recently joined a group of archeologists on a dig in the English midlands. It seems that near the site of a medieval battle, they discovered several graves, one that contained hundreds of viking bodies including a significant number of female warriors. One even contained the remains of several human sacrifices, and a third held what the archeological team now believes may be the grave of Ivar the Boneless himself.

It was recently announced that Jonathan Rhys Meyers, who worked with Hirst on The Tudors, has joined the cast for Season 5, which is set to begin production this summer. He will help fill the void from the departure of Standen, who was tapped as the lead of the new NBC series Taken. Word is his character is not being killed off, so there is a possibility for him to appear in Season 5 as a guest star. However, we’ll have to wait to find out, as that possibility wasn’t talked about during the panel. But fans can at least take home the memories of the panel itself – assuming they weren’t drinking with the cast beforehand.
