History Channel needs 8,000 Viking extras

getmediafile

A horde of Viking hopefuls are set to descend on Dublin this Tuesday and Wednesday as the History Channel begin to set Ragnar Lothbrok and his roving tribe’s latest adventures in motion.

The popular History Channel show Vikings is casting for its fourth series, which will again be filmed in Ireland between April and December.

The docu-drama stars Australian Travis Fimmel as King Lothbrok. It tells the story of the mythical Norse hero as he and his Viking tribe execute raids throughout England, France and northern Europe.

The new series is understood to centre on King Lothbrok’s son Bjorn and will reportedly run to 16 episodes.

An open casting call is due to take place at Filmbase on Curved Street in Dublin’s Temple Bar.

The Canadian/Irish production has said it needs to find a minimum of 8,000 extras of all ethnic backgrounds to work on the new season.

People with specific skillsets such as archers, fishermen, musicians, animal handlers, blacksmiths, tree surgeons, whittlers and carpenters are particularly sought after – with the filmmakers keen to create an authentic setting.

Producers for the show have published a list of requirements on the Vikings Extras Facebook page.

It details a number of requirements, including:

  • People over 6ft and sporty
  • No visible tattoos
  • Males with long hair and beards
  • Women with naturally coloured hair
  • Men and women with punk style haircuts
  • Irish residents
  • Applicants must be 16 and over

However, organisers say that the list is by no means an exhaustive one.

The first stage of casting is due to begin at Filmbase on Tuesday, 31 March at 9.30am and on Wednesday 1 April from 9.30 until 5pm.

For those unable to make Tuesday’s application process, there will be another opportunity to display your Norse attributes at the Grand Hotel, Abbey Street in Wicklow town.

Auditions will take place at the Wicklow hotel on 7 April between 10am-6pm.
