January 23, 2016

TORONTO SUN – Josh Donaldson has been traded to the Vikings.

Wait, what?

It was announced on Thursday that Josh Donaldson of the Toronto Blue Jays will be “bringing the rain” with a guest appearance – and it’s a speaking role – in the fourth season of Vikings, which airs on History.

Donaldson is headed to Ireland this week for filming.

Donaldson, the 2015 American League Most Valuable Player, apparently is a huge fan of the series. Known for his bizarre hairstyles, Donaldson recently Tweeted a photo unveiling an eyebrow-raising Viking-esque cut inspired by Vikings lead character Ragnar Lothbrok, who is played by Travis Fimmel.

DESIGN & TREND – Fans can expect a more fearless Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) in the upcoming season 4 of “Vikings.”

In two new teasers for the new season of the hit History series, the former husband and wife both dauntlessly declare that they are not afraid of death.

“Power, it’s dangerous. This, I have always known,” Ragnar says in one of the promos that debuted on Entertainment Tonight. “Look at what power has given me since I invaded Paris. I found myself thinking, ‘What use this power?’ You see the problem with power is the more you have, the more others want it. And in my world, power can only be truly be built … with blood.”

Bjorn versus the Bear

January 17, 2016

Revenant, shmevenant

bear-2EW – On the new season of Vikings, Alexander Ludwig’s Bjorn walks into the forest looking for trouble in an attempt to prove himself to his parents. “Both Ragnar and Lagertha, in their own way, had tried to keep Bjorn as a child, not respecting him as an equal,” Vikings creator/writer Michael Hirst tells EW. “So Bjorn takes off into the wilderness to prove, both to himself and Ragnar, that he can survive in the most extreme conditions. He’s in the interior of Norway, over a winter.”

Vikings usually shoots in Ireland, but Hirst wanted Bjorn’s journey to feel extra visceral. “We sent Alexander to Canada, in the winter. We made him jump into an ice hole in the lake. We tortured him! Which,” Hirst hastens to add, “he was delighted by.” Filming Bjorn’s Revenant moment actually required two different bear actors trading off scenes. (Think the Olsen Twins, but bears.) “They’ve got a very good union, I guess,” laughs Hirst. “When they rear up, they’re like nine feet tall. Alexander’s about 6’5”, and they made him look small!”

‘Vikings’ Season 4 Teasers Foreshadow Bloodshed and Death — Watch the Intense Promos!

January 13, 2016

The trailer is below the cut

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT – History Channel’s Vikings is back for a brand-new season, and ETonline has your exclusive first look!

After seizing victory from the jaws of defeat with an epic battle in Paris last season, Viking leader Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) returns home dangerously ill. With his health issues possibly crippling him, others seek to take over his throne — including his own wife and eldest son.

In one of two intense season four promos, which will debut on History Channel this week, Ragnar ominously foretells the bloodshed that awaits.

“Power, it’s dangerous. This, I have always known. Look at what power has given me since I invaded Paris. I found myself thinking, ‘What use this power?’” he cryptically says. “You see the problem with power is the more you have, the more others want it. And in my world, power can only be truly be built… with blood.”

But as the music swells and the camera pans to a close-up of his face, he settles in for the long battle ahead: “Only fools believe they can live forever by avoiding the fight. I embrace the idea of death.”

Season 4 Death of King Ragnar is Graceful Exit to Actor Travis Fimmel

October 22, 2015

vikings

With the decision of actor Travis Fimmel to focus on acting on films rather than on the small screen, his character King Ragnar Lothbrok in the historical drama TV series “Vikings” on the History channel may be bidding goodbye to the show come Season 4 next year.

It is really difficult to find a replacement actor for Travis Fimmel and his character in “Vikings” so rather than do it and alienate some fans of the show, it seems like the producers are now contemplating of giving the actor a graceful exit on the TV series – the death of his character.

Reports have it that executive producer Michael Hirst has already teased the possibility of King Ragnar’s death come Season 4 and that his first-born son Bjorn Ironside, played by Alexander Ludwig, will serve as his successor as King of Kattegat in Denmark, details Venture Capital Post.

In a recent interview, Hirst said that fans should take note of the fact that King Ragnar is not only sick, but he is actually hovering from life and death during the Season 3 finale.

Charismatic and magnificent

He admits that Travis has been an absolutely charismatic and magnificent actor for “Vikings” but the show has already come to the point where his young and hot sons can take over from him. Hirst added that hopefully, the audience will continue to be engaged with Bjorn the way they were with King Ragnar, and will also follow him and his adventures or conquests.
